What We're Doing: August

It's so hard to keep up with documenting the details of life with little ones, they change so quickly, and phases are fleeting. And I know there's no way I'll remember all the little things they were doing and saying, unless I make the effort to write it down. So I thought I'd try a series of prompts to give little glimpses of what the kiddos are up to (just the girls for now- We'll add Miller to the mix eventually...you know, when his interests expand beyond milk and naps).

This is what Piper and Fin are up to in August 2014:

Piper:
Reading: Pig Pig Grows Up. It's a book from my childhood about a pig who wants to stay a baby. I introduced it to Piper and she has loved it ever since. She seems to have a bit of a sentimental streak, because she really enjoys hearing about things we used to do when we were kids (even though the concept of time and growing up are still kind of beyond her comprehension).
Watching: Masha and the Bear, a Russian series just released in the U.S. on Netflix. We burned through the first season in a week.
Wearing: Her new sparkle shoes. "They're so sparkly, you can't look right at them. Your eyes will pop out of your head".
Working: On her coloring. She could draw and color forever...she plays so happily by herself, working on little crafts and pictures. She's also getting quite good with scissors. Especially for a leftie.
Playing: "Explorer"- At night, we lay in bed together, put on our fake binoculars (our hands) and search the jungle (her ceiling) for animals. We talk about all the things we see, what they look like, what they're doing or eating.
Eating: Chicken right off the bone. It's a mess. And adorable.
Learning: To write her name. She does it all different variations of wrong each time, and I'm obsessed with it.
Loving: Snuggles. We've gotten in a bedtime routine recently where I lay in her bed, (this came about late in my pregnancy when that was about all I could muster anymore) and we talk about her day, or crazy topics floating around in her head. Falling asleep has been a struggle for her for a while (she's often playing around for an hour after we turn off the lights) and since Miller arrived, she seems to really crave the extra one-on-one attention. So we try to help her wind down if we can (plus it's a special time for us to spend a little time with just her).

Fin:
Reading: Pinkalicious. Every single night. Typically Dustin reads it, but I get a few turns too. We both have it pretty much memorized.
Watching: Curious George, or Clifford (or anything her sister chooses...)
Wearing: Anything of Piper's. She loves to wear her sister's clothes...partly because she likes the particular piece of clothing, but mostly because she gets a kick out of "taking" her sister's things. (Piper is overwhelmingly generous in allowing her to wear her clothes. Sharing toys/carseats/cups is a fate worse than death, but somehow the closet is a conflict free zone. I don't understand it, but I don't argue.)
Working: On not whining. Strugggggglllllle.
Playing: With her stuffed animals. Who need apparently need constant pretend diaper changes.
Eating: Salad. Ok, not a lot of it or anything, but it blows my mind that she'll even try it.
Learning: More and more and more words. Her language just exploded recently (it seems to progress in huge jumps) so we're in a phase where sentences are yelled in Short. Staccato. Shouts! that almost have a stutter, because she's so excited to get all the words out.
Loving: Jumping. This girl can jump all day. She also loves to gallop and tackle...anything rowdy, she's in. And she's constantly asking, "Set the bouncehouse up?"
